Fear has been the biggest obstacle that I have been trying to overcome during this healing journey.

I question everything and myself a lot and trying not to self sabotage and let fear control me has been a battle I am determined to win.

Sometimes you have to say the thing to feel better.
Even if your voice shakes. Even if it sounds selfish. Even if it makes people uncomfortable.

I wrote Hello, Shame after a conversation with my sister about naming your feelings—putting them out there so you can finally release them and breathe again.

Choosing yourself doesn’t always look pretty.
Sometimes it looks like detaching. Like being misunderstood.
Like shame creeping in and telling you you’ve done something wrong.
But most of the time? That’s just your healing getting louder.

This post was me letting it out.

I did it!

I posted my first TikTok and I was scared as hell while doing it.

Honestly, I’ve been debating for months on whether or not I wanted to step into that unknown world of posting on TikTok. But here I am.

It’s not perfect. But it’s me.

Putting myself out there is A LOT and I don’t always feel ready. But one thing I’m learning is you are never ready. You just gotta show up. Eventually you will feel ready.

June 16th, 2025 at 3:38am, I received a text from my dad informing me that my grandpa Charlie passed away.

I was sad and numb. Not sure about my feelings. Well today, while talking to my sister about my grandpa, I was triggered to write.

Understanding me, life, and my relationship with family has been a complicated task that I've been struggling with for years now.

I loved and still love my Grandpa Charlie and he will always have a special place in my heart.

This post is raw and honest. Authentically me.

When I started Healing with Bri, writing was my voice. Having a safe space was my main goal and writing provided that.

Now I’m ready to speak up and out. Working on myself has helped me loosened my throat chakra and has made me less of a people pleaser. I’ve decided to move past the fear of upsetting other people and live for myself.

I can’t wait to launch this revamp! I’m super excited to see Healing with Bri grow.

Today’s Vibes 🌞

Labor Day weekend I went on a family trip to St. George Island and it was beautiful.

During my trip I got time to go by the water and reflect on where I’ve been in life lately. I thought back to earlier this year and my life last year around this time.

2021-2022 I ended an unhealthy relationship, lost my nephew, and ended a relationship with my mother. I quit my job and dealt with financial hardship. I had to unlearn and relearn a lot about myself. And I had to learn how to accept my shadow side instead of trying to hide her. Overall, I’ve been doing the work and this shit has been hard.

You see me say often, healing is not linear and it is not easy but it is fucking worth.

Being able to wake up each morning to a view as beautiful as St. George Beach is a blessing within it self. It forced me to stop and appreciate where I’ve been and where I’m going. It forced me to stop and be present.

There were many days I didn’t think I would make it. Many days where the easiest solution was to end my life but I always knew there was more to life than the hard shit I was dealing with and I was determined to find out what.

Walking on the beach, walking in the water gave me feelings of joy and relief. I felt missed by the water. I felt like everything that has happened has made me stronger. I felt at peace.

So many great changes are happening in my life which is scary but exciting. Everything that I have been asking for is coming to me one by one and y’all, your girl is happy.

In the end, I’m learning how to be present, enjoy what I have now and to show myself some grace. Although I’ve been through some tough shit lately, I’ve also found love within myself. I am remembering my beauty and my value. I remembering why I am alive.

In these pictures I was between the ages of 15-17. Not only was I dealing with high school, but I was dating, and I was dealing with a lot of family shit. I had one parent that was an alcoholic and drug addict and another parent who thought providing a roof over your head was all they needed to do.

During this time, I was learning how to see myself and navigate the world at the same time. I was learning what it meant to love someone. I was learning what it meant getting my heartbroken.

Having the past come back now has thrown me through a loop and has caused me to sit and reflect on all of the things I overlooked.

Reviewing these pictures made me realize that I really didn’t see the value in myself, I didn’t see my own beauty, and I didn’t see how bad life was at that time and how bad it was affecting me. I didn’t see my greatness. I didn’t see what everyone else saw in me.

As I look at these pictures all I can feel is love for myself. I was so beautiful and I hate I didn’t recognize it then. Reflecting on the past has reminded me what it means to be present because you’ll miss out on so much.

I challenge you to go back down memory lane and get back in touch with your younger self. Once you’ve done that, come back here and let me know what it was like. What did you reflect on and what is one thing you’re going to continue carrying with you?

It took a while for me to write this post because I’ve been feeling blocked, tired, and depressed. Trying to force the words out of me just doesn’t seem right so I took the time to regroup and center myself. I took to finding my mojo again.

Getting back to writing took sometime but I’m back. Meditating, being creative, spending time in nature, and having thought provoking conversations has helped a lot.

One of the major things I’ve learned about healing is that it takes a village. I’ve felt alone often during this time but I haven’t been. I am grateful for my circle because y’all…

In this post I talk about how I’ve learned a lot about myself and life in general. I speak on being a people pleaser, things I’ve had to do to center myself, and how friendship and community has helped me. Sorry I’ve Been Gone So Long - But Guess What, I’ve Been Learning Somethings is live now!

Recently I have learned that I don’t listen to myself enough. I allow people to convince me that how I feel is wrong and then that shit back fires on me. If I listened to myself months ago then I wouldn’t be so disappointment now. I have a sense of knowing and but the lack of faith in myself causes me to ignore what I know. Growing up in an environment full of narcissism and manipulation turned me into someone who is afraid to speak up and speak her truth. Well no more. I see where that’s getting me.

…”People pleasing has been my biggest flaw in life. I’ve allowed people to control how I’ve moved. I’ve allowed words and opinions to get to me and control my life. To me, everyone’s answer was always better than mine. I’ve had little faith in myself. Now I am learning that my voice, my opinion, and my answers are really the only thing that matter. I have lived my life considering everyone’s feelings. I have set aside my boundaries just to appease other people and I’m tired of it. I’ve found myself crying more tears and being more disappointed when I don’t listen to my damn self. I am ready to hear my own voice. I’m ready to stop stressing about other people's reactions and thoughts about me. I cannot control that because people will think what they want no matter what I do.”

Now that I’ve been doing more for me. My inner child and inner teen have been more present. I’ve spent more days outside, in nature, and in someone’s pool than I have in years. I’ve made friends and strengthened friendships, I’ve reconnected with family, and I’ve remembered what it was like during the times where dating seemed more exciting than scary. Although I had a lot of great days and collected a lot of new memories. I had to also recognize that my inner child and inner teen are hurting and angry.”

Now that I’ve been doing more for me. My inner child and inner teen have been more present. I’ve spent more days outside, in nature, and in someone’s pool than I have in years. I’ve made friends and strengthened friendships, I’ve reconnected with family, and I’ve remembered what it was like during the times where dating seemed more exciting than scary. Although I had a lot of great days and collected a lot of new memories. I had to also recognize that my inner child and inner teen are hurting and angry.”

Today is the day we remember my nephew Noble.

He was born July 25th, 2021 and passed July 25th, 2021

I can’t believe it’s been a year already.

Noble I wish I got a chance to hold you, hear your laugh, see you grow. You are forever missed. You have taught our family so much and although these lessons have been hard they are necessary. You have shown us all how to live and be our true selves.

I know you are watching over your parents and big sister. I pray you continue giving the strength and love that they need. Keep guiding them and showing them that they can keep going no matter what.

This past week has been a week of reminders. A reminder to stand in my truth, a reminder that I am not alone in this journey, and a reminder that I’m choosing to heal for myself and no one else.

I don’t think I understood how hard it would be to post about my past, my trauma, and my life. I find myself getting caught up in how I should show up for others when I really should focus on showing up for myself.

Often, I go back and reread my post titled “My Why” to remind me why I started this to begin with. Healing with Bri is a safe space created for me and others to speak their truth. I am finding the courage daily to keep doing the necessary work so I can make myself proud

For a long time, just like my sister @randiiiieee I’ve been afraid of speaking about all the things that have helped me during my healing journey. A lot of it is because of judgment. Most of the time when people hear altars, tarot cards, and ancestors they think you’re going down a dark path but honestly y’all it’s far from dark.

Putting up my altar, reading tarot and oracle cards, and journaling has helped me the most. It has kept me alive. Venerating my ancestor and actually talking to them has kept me alive.

Our ancestors were once people that were alive. They are our grandmothers/grandfathers, aunts/uncles, cousins…etc.

When I first began, I was afraid of putting my altar up. I felt ignorant to it all and I felt unprepared. I’ve now come to learn that the material things didn’t matter just my intentions.

The pictures above are all the things that helped me from the beginning. Last year, my altar was a small space on my counter because I lived in a studio apartment with limited space and two cats. My tarot cards helped me and other family members see the truth that we often hid from. My journals helped me get out of my head and say the things I was afraid to say out loud. My healing journey looks different from most but it has helped me and my family a lot.

I say all this to say, talk to your people. Venerate them. Honor them. Thank them. Because they are helping you more than you think and will continue helping you as you live this scary unpredictable life.

If you’re not ready for an altar, just sit and talk with me. When my grandmother passed, I would lay in bed and talk to her until I fell asleep. Everything that was in my head I would speak into the night.

I wish I could say that I was smart enough or loved myself enough to choose myself but I didn’t. I was willing to give him whatever he wanted because it was he who I wanted.

That night I learned that I had made the wrong decision. The decision to choose him over myself was the lowest of lows and it showed me how much I really didn’t love myself.

It took a lot of work to get to where I am now. I didn’t even think I’d be here but I am.

Now I’ve come to learn how to love myself, trust myself, and set boundaries. I now know what I will and will not accept and know that the only person I should ever choose is myself.

Am I ready to date now, yes. But I refuse to repeat my same patterns. I want something and someone different.

If you told me this time last year that I would be starting a blog, I wouldn’t believe you.

Last year I left a career I thought was going to be my forever, ended a relationship I thought would lead to marriage, and lost a nephew I never got to meet. So much was happening all at once and I honestly didn’t know how to process it all, which lead me to writing.

Growing up I secretly loved to write but I never had confidence in my words. I always thought that my sister was the writer of the family and I’ll just remain the teacher. But once my life started to twist upside down, writing was the first thing I ran to. It started with me journaling my feelings away. My journal was my new best friend. I put any and everything in my journal. All the feelings that I’d usually keep bottled up spilled onto the paper. Next, I started back creating mini stories. All the thoughts, what ifs, and scenarios I created in my head had to go somewhere. So I put them in stories. Finally, I began writing articles. For a while I entertained the thought of possibly writing for news outlets or online publications.

All of the writing and knowledge lead me to here. Lead me to the creation of Healing with Bri. I honestly knew the name of my blog before I decided it was going to become a blog. My why for creating Healing with Bri is simply to create an outlet for myself. To allow myself the space to speak my truth and finally see myself for who I am. I knew creating this blog would help me grow in some form or fashion. I also knew that my story could resemble other stories. My stories could help many people.

Although I have been comfortable staying hidden and reclusive I have not been happy. I’ve hidden for so long I forgot who I was and I lost my voice. The pic above is a snippet to a post you will read on my blog. A full explanation behind my why.

Next up was editing and that’s where Canva came in.

At this point I hadn’t started on my website because I didn’t know what colors I wanted. All I knew was that I wanted a vibe that not only highlighted who I was but also made those that would read my blog feel welcomed.

I played around with the filters until I fell on the “painted” filter and LOVED it. Not only did the filter make my pictures look bad ass, I also was able to use them to help pick out my colors.

I used https://coolors.co/image-picker to help me find the perfect color pallet for my website.

This whole process was super fun and heightened my excitement for the blog. I’m even planning on putting these pictures on canvases and hanging them around my house because I LOVE them.

One thing I’m learning through this creation and healing process is that perfection is an illusion. Just be you and it will all work out!

This photoshoot was tough for many reasons and I remember after the photoshoot sitting down and talking to my sister about it all. We pulled cards and I shed some tears because this was a big step for me.

For years I’ve had people make comments about my body or simply take advantage of it. For years I hated the way I looked because I was either judged because of my body or put in very dangerous situations where I didn’t have control over my body.

For my first outfit I came out in all black. My signature color because it hid all the things I wanted to hide. After taking the first few shots my sister shut that shit down quickly and made me go change. She said “you need to be in color. You need to be in something brighter” and she was right.

The pictures came out better than I’d imagined and although I didn’t have the money to buy new clothes or hire a professional I had the support and courage to get the job done.
